October 22

I have just one slot remaining this term which is on a Tuesday at around 1300.  This could be suitable for an Adult or an A Level student at a local school who has a suitable free period. Please contact me if that could suit you.

If you are interested in lessons for Sept 23 and beyond do contact me to add you name to my waiting list.

September 22

I have now contacted everyone on my wating list and lessons are restarting on 12th September.

All my lessons this term will be face to face. However, if you should have symptoms of Covid, close contact with a case or test positive do let me know and we will revert to video.

August 22

Well done to all my students, everyone passed, there were 2 level 9's and a level 8 at GCSE and an A* and A at A level. Congratulations to you all.

July 22

I have finished lessons for the summer holiday and will be restarting on the 12th of September.  Good luck to those students who have finished their exams this year, please do let me know your results in August.  A-level students for next term should contact me as soon as they get their timetables.

December 21

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my students.  Please note that I will not be teaching from the 17th December though to the 5th January Inclusive.

September 21

I am restarting tuition the week beginning the 13th of September.  It looks like most of my after-school slots will be full.  I should have a few of daytime slots which are suitable for adults or students doing A-levels who can have tuition on an afternoon when they finish early or during a free period.  I will have a waiting list for lessons starting in June or September 2022 and beyond.  If you are interested in lessons now or in the future do give me a call.

August 21

Congratulations to all my students on their results this year. Thanks for keeping in touch. I am glad that everyone passed and of course I am pleased for those students who got level 8 or 9 at GCSE and A* at A-level which only comes after considerable effort on their part.  Special congratulations to one of my students from Darrick Wood who achieved an A* at A-level and has secured a place at Oxford to study medicine. I am equally pleased with those foundation level students who got level 4 or 5, for some student's maths is a real challenge and I have really enjoyed helping them achieve the pass they wanted.

July 21

My last regular lessons before the summer holiday will be on the 21st of July. I plan to restart lessons on the 13th of September.

In the meantime, I will be offering booster lessons on the 26th, 27th and 27th of July and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of August. New or existing students can take as many lessons as they wish in a short block.  Please let me know if you are interested.

May 21

It has been sad to say goodbye to some of my A-level and GCSE students who are finishing at the end of this half term. I wish you all the best of luck for the future and please do let me know when you get your results.

I am contacting students on my waiting list now to offer the slots which have become available with a view to starting after half term.

I also do now have some daytime availability for A level students, so please do contact me if you interested.

I am still teaching by video but hope to back to face to face lessons as soon as possible.

December 20

I will be stopping teaching for Christmas on Friday the 18th December and restarting on Monday the 11th January.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my students.

October 20

I will not be teaching the week beginning 26th October. This is Half term for most schools with one and two week half terms. If you have a two week half term and you do not want lessons in the other week of your holiday please let me know.

August 20

Schools are starting back next week, and I will be restarting regular lessons in the week beginning the 14th September. For the moment, these lessons will be by video link, but I hope to return to face to face teaching as soon as possible.  I am in the process of contacting students on my waiting list to arrange time slots. If you are an A-Level student and would like lessons during the school day, please contact me as soon as you have your timetable. Please don't hesitate to call me if you would like to enquire about lessons.

July 20

I have now stopped regular lessons for the summer holidays. I will be offering booster lessons during the summer holidays on the fowling dates 27th 28th 29th July and 3rd 4th 5th August. New or existing students can take as many lessons as they wish in a short block. Please let me know if you are interested.

April 20

Lessons will restart following the Easter break on Monday the 20th April.

All lessons will be via video using Zoom. As a student you will be able to see both me and a virtual white board or a visualiser camera, where you will be able see what I am explaining and view homework and examples.  I have been using this set up with my students over the past weeks and it works very well.  The bigger the screen you have the better, a desktop or laptop screen works better than a phone.  It is important that students return a clear scan of their homework to me by email, so that I can mark it in advance of the lesson.

Some of my previous students are no longer taking exams this year, so I do have some space and I will be contacting students on my waiting list soon to see if they would like to commence lessons.

If you are on my waiting list and wish to start, please don't hesitate to contact me. If you are interested in lessons, please let me know and I will add you to the list.

March 20

Covid -19 Update:

Schools and educational establishments are now closed. With effect from Monday 23rd March all my tutoring will be online.

Students will connect with me using a video link enabling them to see me and me to see them.  They will also be able to see a virtual white board on which I can write in real time as well as paste marked homework, examples, photos etc.

I will email a link to each student to allow them to connect to this virtual classroom.

I thought I would give you a quick update following the latest government advice for educational establishments regarding the current Covid-19 outbreak.

At this stage, while schools are still open, I am planning to continue lessons as normal. However, in order to minimise the risk:

  • I would request that student who are unwell with a cough or high temperature symptoms not to attend for tuition.
  • I would also ask that students who have had close contact with confirmed case of Covid-19 not to attend for tuition.
  • In the light of this I will suspend my early cancellation charges for students who are ill or need to self-isolate until the end of term in July 2020
  • Students are now requested to wash their hand on arrival. I will do the same between lessons.
  • I will now clean the desk area between students.
  • As always tissues and a bin are available for the students to use.
  • All student must bring their own pads, pens instruments and calculators to avoid sharing items with me and other students.
  • I request that you advise me immediately of any student who is confirmed to have Covid-19.
  • In the event that any student is unable to attend lessons, or I am required to suspend teaching, I would be prepared to tutor via Video link.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any concerns or require any further information.

June 19

The GCSE and A-level exams are over this week, and the students are looking forward to a well-deserved long summer break.  I am currently contacting students on my waiting list some of whom will be able start lessons in the week beginning 16th June.

April 19

If you haven't done it already, now is the time to make a proper revision plan.  Use a blank sheet of paper, a diary or Google Calendar to plan out your revision time every day between now and the exams. Mark in the date of every exam and every commitment or social activity you have.  Then divide the remaining time into revision slots.  Allow time for breaks and meals. Be realistic, don't put down to revise while EastEnders is on if you can't miss it.  Split the slots amongst the subjects you are taking, only you can decide whether you need more effort on Geography than French.  Now be specific and decide what you are going to do in each slot. Allocate into the slots all the past papers you haven't done yet, the topics you need to work on to understand better, the essays you need to practice writing and preparing the lists of things you need to remember for each subject.  It will take a while to do this, but it will help focus your priorities before the exams.  As you revise and do past papers, keep a careful list of anything you need to remember, can't do or don't understand for each subject. Take items you don't understand one by one to your teachers or bring them to me and ask for help when you need it.

March 19

I am now fully booked again. I have a waiting list for lessons starting in June/September 2019.   If you would like lessons next year, please don't hesitate to contact me and I will add you to the list.

February 19

December 18

Merry Christmas to all my students.  Normal lessons will restart on the 7th January 2019.

October 18

All of my daytime slots are now fully booked. I have a waiting list for lessons starting in June/September 2019.   If you would like lessons next year, please don't hesitate to contact me and I will add you to the list.

September 18

I am restarting lessons the week beginning the 10th September.  All of my evening slots are already booked, but I will have a few daytime slots on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Most schools will allow A-level student to leave during the day for tutoring, so if you have a suitable free period and would like lessons don't hesitate to contact me.

August 18

Thanks for letting me have your results, everyone passed so congratulations all round.  At A-level there was 1 A, two Bs and a C and everyone got their first choice of universities or jobs.  For GCSE there were three grade 9s, two 8s and a 5. Two Students also got A grade passes in Level 2 further Maths which some students sit alongside their GCSEs.  I am really pleased with these results, not just the top grades, but also the lower ones which came as a result of hard work and dedication from those particular students.

July 18

Good Luck to all my students as the GCSE and A Level exams start this week.

April 2017

The exams are approaching fast and it's time to prepare a proper revision plan.  See the entry from April 2015 for some tips on how to do this.

September 2016

Thanks for letting me know your GCSE results....including two A*'s and 3A's well done to you all.

Back to school after the holidays. My students know that I like sailing in my spare time, so here is a picture from my holiday in Greece remind us of summer as the nights draw in.

August 2016

Thanks for letting me know your A level results. I had five A2 Level students this year and thier results were 2A's and 3 B's and they are all heading off to good universities.  Well done to all of you, these results are a credit to the effort you put in.

Don't forget to let me know when you get your GCSE results.

I will not be teaching the first week of next term so those A Level students who would like to come during the school day should e-mail me their timetables as soon as they get them.  Normal lessons will restart on the 12th of September.

July 2016

Congratulations to Chris, one of my long-term students, who achived a 2.1 in Aeronautical Engineering.....now that really is rocket science!. Thanks for the nice letter. It's always nice to hear how past students are getting on.

Schools are breaking up this week so enjoy the summer.   I am available now for catch-up sessions if you want to clear up a topic you didn't really understand last year.  I am also available to help degree students who have resits before the start next term.

May 2016

Good Luck to all my students as the GCSE and A Level exams start this week.

April 2016

The exams are approaching fast and it's time to prepare a proper revision plan.  See the entry from April 2015 for some tips on how to do this.

February 2016

All of my after-school slots are full again. However, I am expecting to have about six slots become available when this year's GCSE and A Level exams finish in June.   I have started a waiting list for students wishing to commence lessons at that time.  Please e-mail me or give me a call if you would like to reserve a place.

December 2015

Happy Christmas to all my students. Normal lessons restart Monday 4th January.

I will have a couple of Friday afternoon slots available in the new year so please contact me if you would like to discuss lessons.

November 2015

Mock exams are approaching for GCSE and A Level students.  These exams can really help you get ready for the real thing in June, but only if you take time to prepare for them.  Practice some past papers and identify the areas you are struggling with then set aside some time to revise and practice those topics.  By Christmas, AS students should target to be able to pass the C1 paper at the grade they would like in June. Until last year this exam was taken in January.....so no excuses!

I still have a couple of daytime slots on Monday and Tuesday.  For example the slot at 1415 might be suitable for an AS student at a local school who has the last period free and could come to me on the way home.  Don't hesitate to drop me an e-mail or give me a call if you would like to discuss possible lessons.

September 2015

Back to school already! So a holiday picutre below to brighten the days!

If you are an AS or A2 student, please contact me as soon as possible as the daytime spaces are filling up quickly.  I do still have daytime slots available on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Most schools will allow students to leave for tutoring if they have one or more suitable free periods.

August 2015

Thanks for letting me know your results.  It's always good to share your successes.  Particularly well done to the student who achieved a place at Oxford this year - you worked hard and got the results you deserved.

June 2015

The GCSE and A Level exams are over now, so relax and enjoy the summer.

Congratulations!..... One of my students e-mailed me today to say that she has passed her QTS Numeracy Skills Test.  This test is a requirement for anyone who wants to become a teacher, regardless of the subject or age group they wish to teach. Good luck with your teacher training.

I am starting lessons now with those students who have been on my waiting list.

May 2015

Good luck to you all with your exams.

April 2015

This post bumped up to April 19

January 2015

Happy 2015 and good luck to those students with mocks this month.

I still have a couple of daytime slots available that could be good for a local AS or A2 students.  Schools will normally allow students to leave during the day for tutoring if they have a free period.

December 2014

Happy Christmas to all my Students. Regular lessons restart again on Monday 5th January.

November 2014

I have just returned from seeing two of my current students performing in the Bromley Youth Music Trust performance of Phantom of the Opera. It was a really great show - well done to you both and the rest of the performers.  I have had quite a few BYMT students over the past years and it's really nice when they invite me to go to their shows and concerts. If your children play an instrument or sing, BYMT is a really great organisation where they can join other students in some of the best youth music ensembles in the country. If you are interested, take a look at this link to the BYMT website.

September 2014

Welcome back from holiday and welcome to my new students.

I am almost completely full now for this term.  I do have a few daytime slots available that could be suitable for adults and college students or A Level students from local schools who can come to me in a free period.

August 2014

Thanks for contacting me with your results. It was great to have so many A's and A*'s but also nice when my student in his seventies passed his GCSE Maths for the first time and a student that has tried twice before got a pass. Well done, it was a pleasure teaching you.

July 2014

The school holidays are here, enjoy the break. Don't forget to tell me how you got on when you get your exam results.

I am taking reservations for lessons starting in September and I am available now for catch-up sessions if you want to clear up a topic you didn't really understand last year.  I am also available to help degree students who have resits before the start of next term.

June 2014

The GCSE and A Level exams are over.  Those student who have been on my waiting list will start this week.   I also have some slots available for new students.  New GCSE or A Level students could start right away and I will also take reservations for students to start in September.

If you have just finished your GCSE or A Levels enjoy the summer holiday.

May 2014

Good luck with your exams

March 2014

All of my evening and weekend slots are full now. I will have more slots available as soon as the GCSE and A Level exams start in May/June. Please let me know if you would like to reserve a place to start work in preparation for next year's GCSEs and A-levels.

I do have some daytime slots available. These are good for college students and A Level students at local schools who have free periods.  I will also have some availability during the Easter Holidays - these could be useful if you just need a few lessons to sort out one or two specific topics before the exams.

February 2014

The exams might still appear to be a long way off, but they will come round very quickly. Now is the time to start your past paper practice. Check how many papers there are available and make a schedule to do them all before the exams. Use these past papers to identify areas you don't understand well enough. I can help you with any of the topics you are finding hard.

January 2014

Happy New Year and Good Luck to those students with mocks this month.

Decmber 2013

Happy Christmas to all my students.

November 2013

As usual, I'm very busy, but I would be able to fit one more person in this term. I will have a few more slots avalible in January,  so  give me a call if you'd like me to hold one of these slots for you.

October 2013

The rules for AS and A Level students change this year.  Instead of sitting one module in January and two more in June each year, students will now sit three modules in June of each year.  This gives a lot less opportunity for resitting and makes the June exam season even tougher.  Don't believe anyone who says A Levels are easy.  A Level Maths is tough for most students and requires a lot of hard work.

September 2013

Back from holidays now and term's just about to start.  As my students know, I enjoy sailing and I had a couple of weeks in Greece during the summer. Here's a photo to cheer us through the autumn.  I hope you enjoyed the summer too. Looking forward to seeing you again.

August 2013

Congratulations on your exam results. Some amazing results - well done!
